A STEM Summer Camp Intern at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center helps develop and lead our exciting Summer Day Camps, focusing on space science and STEM exploration. Interns design and facilitate engaging activities, teach and inspire campers, ensure their safety, and evaluate the camp experience. Affordable dorm housing on college campus adjacent to the Discovery Center will be available for out-of-area candidates.

Curriculum Development: Design six weeks of engaging, age-appropriate STEM curricula and daily activities for weekly summer day camps (ages 5-14), in alignment with predetermined camp themes, with support and approval from the Education Coordinator.
Camp Leadership: Serve as a co-lead teacher and counselor, creating a dynamic, safe, and educational environment where campers can explore STEM topics while having fun. Foster a positive, inclusive, and challenging atmosphere for all participants.
Camper Safety & Well-being: Supervise to ensure the safety of all campers at all times, providing first aid when necessary or coordinating appropriate assistance in emergencies.
Camp Evaluation: Actively assess camper engagement and ensure learning objectives are met. Oversee evaluations from campers and their parents and provide feedback on how to improve future camps.
Policy Compliance: Adhere to all center policies, as well as state and federal regulations, including health and safety guidelines and civil rights laws.
Additional Duties: Take on other responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of the center and ensure the success of the summer camp program.

Education: Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student in an associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree program in an accredited college, university or community/technical college with major study in a science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics field.
Experience: At least three months’ experience in teaching and/or working with children preferred.
License/Certification Required: First Aid/CPR Certification preferred. Valid driver's license or access to transportation.
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen (due to federal grant requirement)

Self-starter, multi-tasker, enjoys working both collaboratively and independently, excellent oral and written communication skills with both children and adults, creative and highly flexible, good conflict resolution skills. Enjoys challenges and respects learners of all ages and backgrounds. High degree of comfort with IT/AV technology.

Able to carry, transport and set up equipment, furniture and exhibit components weighing up to 50 pounds.
