Education Coordinator

 Do you love science? Engineering? Are you enthusiastic about sharing your skills and knowledge with people of all ages? Then apply to coordinate the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center’s Education Team. As our Education Coordinator, you will work with our Director of Education and independently, to develop and present a wide variety of programs, exhibits and planetarium shows, on- and off-site; and train, lead, coordinate and support the efforts of our education staff and volunteers.

 Learning doesn’t always happen 9 to 5! Your job will include working days, nights, weekends, some overnights with youth groups, and traveling in Northern and Central New England for outreach programs. There will also be some heavy lifting involved, as you help unpack crates and mount exhibits, set up for programs and transport our portable planetarium and telescopes.

 A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, education, aviation or museum studies, with a demonstrated ability to teach/share scientific information with the public and work independently. The starting pay for this full-time position is $15/hour.

Visitor Services Assistant

We are hiring part-time visitor services assistants who will make a great first impression on our visitors and program participants, through friendly and efficient front desk and telephone reception, accurate reservations and admission, membership, Science store and program sales. This position also serves as front line security.

 Minimum requirements: High school degree or GED equivalent and six months’ experience in cashiering and accounting for daily receipts. Familiarity with computers and software systems a plus. Come join a team dedicated to creating a great science museum experience every day!

 This position is part-time, and ranges from 6 – 30 hours/week. Weekday, night and weekend shifts available; more hours will be available to candidates who can work a flexible schedule that includes weekdays, weekends and nights. Starting pay is $10/hour.

Science Museum Educator

Are you looking for a part-time job that lets you lead a crowd to the edge of the known universe? Would you like to share your love of science with everyone from toddlers to senior citizens? Then we have the job for you!

If you are enthusiastic about science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics and have excellent communications skills, please consider joining our team and working with our visitors and program participants, at the Discovery Center and in our outreach programs throughout Northern and Central New England. 

As a Science Museum Educator, you will assist in the development of, and lead, educational programs both in-house and off-site; help develop, construct, maintain, ship and install exhibits, serve as a docent and primary resource to members of the public on astronomy, aviation, Earth and space science, and provide security for the Discovery Center. Activities can range from presenting planetarium shows to engaging children in afterschool STEM enrichment activities to leading school field trip participants in science workshops to bringing air rocket or telescope programs to schools and libraries in NH, VT, ME and MA and more!

If you have a flexible schedule, you may be able to do all of the above. If your schedule is more limited, we may engage you for weekday school and afterschool activities, or for weekend/night public hours and events.

Ideal candidates will be quick learners and comfortable with technology of all kinds.  Minimum requirements: Demonstrated knowledge of and comfort with science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics and demonstrated capacity to work with the public, especially children; high school degree or equivalent.

Schedule typically ranges from 10 – 20 hours/week and may include days, nights, weekends and overnights.  Starting pay: $12/hour.
