Happy International Museum Day!
Every year since 1977, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) has organized International Museum Day on behalf of the global museum community. On this day, participating institutions all over the world highlight the important role that museums play—in our communities and in society as a whole—as vital sites of engagement, education, cultural stewardship, and civic development. According to ICOM, participation in International Museum Day is growing all over the world. In 2019, more than 55.000 museums participated, in some 150 countries!
We at the Discovery Center are proud of our mission to inspire every generation to reach for the stars. Thank you for trusting us, year after year, to share the lessons and wonderment of astronomy, aviation, and earth and space sciences with your families, classrooms, and out-of-town guests. We believe that museums play a vital role their communities, and we are honored to continue to serve our audiences—both virtually and in person.
Why It Matters
Inspiration is our business. At the Discovery Center, we believe that ANYONE can change the world with the right tools and information. This is why we are so devoted to exposing visitors of all ages and backgrounds to science, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts and their real-world applications. Through diverse programming and educational materials, we encourage young people to see themselves as scientists. Watch this video to learn more about how the Discovery Center inspires our visitors to reach for the stars!
Love the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center?
There are plenty of opportunities to give back! While we are temporarily closed to the public, we continue to operate virtually, to be an educational resource for students and families in and beyond New Hampshire.
