Comets and Meteors, oh my!

January 17th, 2026 - 10:45am-11:45am

CANCELLED- Stay tuned for future date

Comets and meteors might look like tiny space rocks, but they’ve got some seriously cool stories to tell—and right now, scientists are learning brand-new ones! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll uncover the secrets of these icy, rocky wanderers: where they come from, why they sometimes light up the sky, and what they can teach us about the early days of our solar system.

We’ll also explore 3I-ATLAS, a recently discovered object that made its closest approach to Earth on December 19, 2025. Because it passed so close, astronomers are gathering exciting new data that’s helping us learn even more about mysterious visitors from space—and we’ll share what scientists are discovering . You’ll get to touch real space rocks, watch a comet nucleus come to life, and make your very own comet craft to take home. Space is calling—are you ready to explore?

This program is designed for ages 9 -14, but all ages are welcome to join. With plenty of activities and interactive discussions, this workshop is perfect for curious minds eager to learn how humans have studied our universe for over 400 years!

Come ready to explore, create, and reach for the stars!

I’ve always been into things like exploring and science on the frontiers. I had pictures of space up in my room way back in middle school, right next to the boy band posters!
