Coming Soon: Community Science and Climate Change
Climate change is a hot topic right now, and communities of all sizes are thinking about what the future might bring- but what does it mean on an individual level? Join us for a conversation with panelists from many backgrounds as we explore different experiences with climate change. Panelists will range from researchers to outdoor enthusiasts, all sharing their perspectives on how they experience climate change, and you'll have a chance to add your story as well. Then learn about our NOAA-funded community science project looking at extreme heat in New Hampshire- we're looking for help collecting data this June and July, and everyone can play a role in planning for climate change! This online meeting will take place Tuesday, May 25 at 7 pm. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required- you can register here.
Coming Soon: Super Stellar Friday- Mystery & Majesty of Saturn's Rings
Get ready for our next virtual Super Stellar Friday event on March 5th at 7pm- Mystery & Majesty of Saturn’s Rings!
Captivating people for more than four hundred years, Saturn’s rings have long held many mysteries. Where did they come from? What are they made of? Why are they so big? Why don't other planets have rings like this? Thanks to studies and imaging from the Cassini Mission to Saturn, scientists were able to improve decades old theories to better answer these questions and more. Join Tufts graduate student and McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center intern Amanda Leith as we embark on a journey across our solar system to discover the secrets of the rings.
This program is free and open to the public, but registration is required- click here to sign up!
Introducing our 2020 Rube Goldberg Machine DIY Challenge!
As part of our 2020 celebration of women in STEM—funded, in part, by the Association for Science & Technology Centers’ and Lyda Hill Philanthropies’ If/Then initiative—we are focusing in early September on the joys of engineering! On August 30 we premiered a video on Facebook, in which members of our Education team discuss engineering, machine basics, and how to bring STEM into your own home with materials that you already have handy.
Now we’re handing over the reigns to you, our visitors…Watch the video presentation here (in case you missed it on 8/30), then read on for details on how to submit your own entry in our 2020 Rube Goldberg Machine DIY Challenge! Three winning teams (divided by age group) will win a family membership to the Discovery Center.
