Take Home Science Experiment - July 2019

Ever wish you could take the Discovery Center home with you? Every month, we’ll be posting a science experiment you can make at home. We’re starting early with July, since we have so much to share in honor of the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing next month! Share with your friends and be sure to send us your results!

Make your own Moon Dust

Supplies:
1 cup of grey play sand

1/2 tbsp cornstarch

1 tsp dish soap

1 cup of water (added as needed)

Directions

  • Begin by combining the play sand and cornstarch in a large bin or container.

  • Mix well.

  • In a separate container combine 1 cup of water with 1 tsp of dish soap, and stir until the water is bubbly.

  • Then, slowly add the water-mixture to the sand/cornstarch and mix well.

  • Mix and mix, slowly adding more water & mixing as you go.

  • Continue to add more water & mix until the desired consistency is reached.   if your sand is coarser or finer than mine you may need more/less water, so be sure to add it SLOWLY!

  • Add buckets/shovels/kitchen gadgets, and kids will have a blast as they create & play!

Share your creation with us!
