Coming Soon: Super Stellar Friday- Celestial Navigation 101

Want to know how sailors use the stars to find their way? This virtual presentation is designed to make the subject of Celestial Navigation, as practiced by the average blue-water sailor, understandable to the beginner. UNH Marine Docent Nate Hazen will remove some of the mystery and lay out the logical steps in this skill - for those just interested, or for those who wish to embark later on a more serious study. While omitting some of the more esoteric details and specific methodology, we will cover all of the basic steps toward understanding how this still-useful navigational process is done. (There is only so much that we can cover in one hour.)

The popular use of GPS devices, for both land and water use, will be briefly shown, but for the blue-water sailor the earlier techniques are a necessary back-up for the bad times – when power or batteries fail. They will also appeal to the simply curious!

This online event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
