Now Announcing: Family Activities Available on Museum Grounds Starting THIS WEEKEND!
This weekend we are taking a new step toward gradually welcoming the public back to the Discovery Center. Beginning on Friday, June 19, we will be offering a series of outdoor activity stations on Fridays, Saturday, and Sundays, from 11:00 to 3:00.
Each weekend, assorted all-ages activities will be set up on outdoor tables on the Discovery Center grounds. Instructions and materials will be provided for each activity, and a museum educator will be present to provide guidance and feedback from a safe social distance. Just drop in! As an added bonus, our Science Store will be open during all of the public activity hours, to meet your souvenir and take-home science needs.
Activities scheduled for Friday June 19, Saturday June 20, and June 21 include:
Nebula Spin Art: create your own beautiful nebula—an interstellar cloud of dust and gas—with paint and a salad spinner
Straw Rockets: blast off with this quick & easy hand-made rocket
Toddler Tactile Exploration: opportunity for young children to learn more about the world through their own fingertips
Health & Safety Notes
Please ensure that all visitors over the age of 2 wear a mask when visiting the Discovery Center—both indoors and outdoors. We will have basic masks available for visitors who do not have their own, and fancy NASA ones for sale in our store.
For the health and safety of all Discovery Center staff and visitors, we ask you to refrain from visiting if you feel ill or have been exposed to known or expected illness. We expect you to stay with your own group when conducting hands-on activities, with one group permitted at each activity station at a time.
Museum staff will be sanitizing all materials thoroughly between users, and hand sanitizer will be available for visitors use as well. Please note that, with the exception of the Science Store, the interior of the Discovery Center building—including the restrooms—will not be available to the public during outdoor activity hours.
