Just for Fun: Interstellar Postcard

Have you ever traveled far away from home? Did you send a postcard to your friends or family to share the experience with them? Let your imagination take you on a trip faaaaar from Earth, at the very boundaries of our solar system. What might THAT postcard look like?!

Imagine It

In 2008, NASA launched the Interstellar Boundary Explorer—IBEX—spacecraft to explore and map the outer boundaries of our solar system (learn more here). There are no people on the IBEX mission, so you’ll have to use your imagination for this activity.

Picture yourself traveling to the edges of our solar system in a spacecraft. What will you pass on your way? What might you see when you reach your destination?

Design It

Now fill out a postcard to update all your friends back on Earth. Where are you traveling and what have you seen? What is life like on your ship? What do you miss most about Earth?

You may print and use the template provided by NASA (button below), or work from scratch and create all of the postcard designs yourself. What picture would YOU include on an interstellar exploration postcard?
