Space Crafts: Galaxy Scratch Paper

Need a fun, somewhat clean craft to do with the whole family? Make your own galaxy scratch paper! This craft can be done with items you can find around the house, so no need to brave the stores for any of these supplies! I grabbed my sisters to try out this fun craft.

Supplies:

Paper (I used card stock so it would hold up better)

Crayons or Colored Pencils

Paint Brush

Paints (Black has the most contrast, but any color will do!)

Skewer or Toothpick

1. Draw a beautiful picture! The darker and brighter the colors the better. This will help later when you go to scratch away the paint.

We decorated our pages with space themed ideas, but you could draw any picture your heart desires!

2. When you are finished with your pictures, it is time to paint. We used newspaper underneath to ensure an easy clean up.

3. Use your brush to paint over your entire picture. Make sure all of your brush strokes are going the same direction and are as smooth as possible. Use enough paint to completely hid your picture. If the paint is too thin, you will see your drawing underneath and scratching the paint off later will not work as well.

4. Cover your entire image with paint and let it completely dry.

5. To scratch off your image, we used cooking skewers, but a toothpick would work too.

6. Scratch away!

7. When you are done you should have a nice piece of artwork for the fridge!
