President George Herbert Walker Bush
June 12, 1924 - November 30, 2018
President George H.W. Bush lived a life of service to his nation and the world. He led our nation with a quiet strength, shepherding us through a tumultuous time that saw the dismantling of the Iron Curtain and the end of the Cold War.
We were honored in 2008 to have President George H.W. Bush endorse our plans to build an air and space museum in Concord, New Hampshire dedicated to NH Space Pioneers Christa McAuliffe and Alan Shepard. He graciously provided what he felt to be the perfect picture and quote for our project; the above image, including the quote, is from the brochure we created to inform the public about our planned museum.
In 1985, then Vice-President George H.W. Bush met with the ten finalists for NASA’s Teacher-in-Space program at the White House, and announced to the world that Concord NH High School social studies teacher Christa McAuliffe would be NASA’s Teacher-in-Space. The above picture is from that event. Two duplicate commemorative trophies were made for this event; one was given to Christa, and the other was displayed at NASA Headquarters until NASA gave it to the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in 2010. It is currently displayed in our Tribute exhibit.
We will miss President George H.W. Bush’s bravery and compassion, as we at the same time celebrate a life well lived. Our hearts are with the Bush family.
