Super Stellar Friday: The Hunt is On! Search for Exoplanets

Doors open at 6:30 PM to enjoy our exhibits. The workshop will begin at 7

Join us on a search for planets! First, we will check out a few of the planets in our own solar system using telescopes if the weather permits. Utilizing our Tonight Sky, Family of the Sun, and Digital Universe Planetarium software, we'll delve into the basics of solar systems and planets, all culminating in the search for planets around other stars! How are astronomers looking for these exoplanets? How many have been found? Why are we looking for them? Then, we will try to find some ourselves! Utilizing hands-on interactives and the latest NASA data, join us on this hunt for exoplanets. To continue the theme of the workshop, we will be showing Extreme Planets instead of our normal Tonight’s Sky program after the workshop ends (around 8:30).

*This event is the first step in a project funded by NASA's Universe of Learning to spread the word about objects beyond our solar system. Help us create the best workshop and be on the lookout for the other events relating to this project!*

Doors close at 9:30 PM.

The all-inclusive price for Super Stellar Friday at the Discovery Center is $11.50 for adults, $10.50 for students and seniors, $8.50 for children 12 and under, and free for members. Pending clear skies, our observatory will be open and members of the NH Astronomical Society will be outside the Discovery Center with telescopes pointed to the sky, ready to share their knowledge and views from their telescopes for free.
